rainbowreflection: But this Skeletor guy sounds pretty trustworthy. (I'm skeptical.)

Short Story + Post

"Ha...ha...ha..."

Isao was leaned up against a wall in one of the hallways of the Duel College. He was bruised. He was exhausted. But as he stared up at the ceiling, his long purple hair a mess, sweat dripping down his face...he was also grinning.

Somehow, that was the part that bothered Johan the most.

"Hey!" Johan said as he stormed down the hall and up to Isao. Desdemona was right behind him, but she didn't say anything, yet. Isao was a big kid, so even with Johan having quite a few years on him, the height and size difference wasn't that pronounced. Isao just looked at him, that smirk not fading.

"You're not happy to see me this time."

"You're darn right I'm not happy to see you -- what the heck was all of that?!"

"That was me winning a duel," Isao said. "I thought you'd gotten used to that at this point."

"You were trying to injure both Shun and Yuya!" Johan said.

"They started it," Isao grunted back. "Kurosaki couldn't handle that he lost to me. So he tried to start a fight with me. And every time, I've outclassed him, so his buddy, Sakaki, got involved." Isao held his hands up. "You made the duel. So I dealt with it."

"You went too far, Kachidoki-kun," Desdemona said, coolly. "Yuya-kun had to be taken to the hospital because of what you did in that duel."

"Sakaki was hurt by the fall," Isao said back. "If he doesn't wanna risk falling, maybe he shouldn't be climbing on top of his monsters so often."

"You kneed him in the side of the head!"

"I was stopping him from getting a card, so I could win the duel." Isao stood up off of the wall and walked right into Johan's face. "Tell me where I broke the rules." He looked at Desdemona. "Anything?" Back at Johan. "Didn't think so. I'm leaving, then." He brought a hand up and gave them both a slow, back and forth wave. "Bye."

"It's not that simple, Kachidoki-kun," Desdemona said. "You've engaged in physical altercations outside of a duel multiple times now. I think you should avoid coming to the College until it's time for your next duel." That got Isao to pause.

"...are you suspending me?"

"I am saying you've been coming here every day without pause and I believe it's negatively impacting you and others and you need to take some time off to examine your priorities here," Desdemona said without missing a beat. "Is suspending you the only way to make you do that?"

"Yeah, it is," Isao said, knowing what that response would get him.

"...then yes." She nodded. "You are suspended until your duel with Kurosaki-kun. And I'll remind you -- if Kurosaki-kun wins that duel, you will lose your spot in the ranking and in the championship duels."

Isao glowered at Desdemona for a moment. Then at Isao, then he let out a "Tch."

"Fine," he grunted. He didn't say anything else, he turned and left. Johan put a hand on his own head as he left.

"I'm not sure why he's even still getting a shot at the championship," Johan said back to Desdemona. She let out a sigh.

"Because, his personality aside, he may be the best duelist here," Desdemona said, though it didn't sound like she was pleased. "And our job is to find the best duelists here and elevate them.

"So what if he wins the championship by injuring everybody in his way? That's not real dueling, Desdemona, that's just! Street fighting with cards!" He ran a hand through his head. "You asked me to come here so I could help you teach these guys and I've been trying to get through to Isao like every day, but....I'm starting to think that guy isn't reachable." Johan felt bad saying that as he said it. He let out a frustrated groan.

"...how about you go to the hospital and see how Yuya-kun is doing," Desdemona suggested. "I have to go tell the rest of our duelists what's happening."

"Yeah...okay," Johan said and started fiddling through his pockets.

"In all likelihood, Yuya won't be able to participate in the preliminary duels..."

"Yeah..." Johan thought for a sec. "Yuzu and Masumi are tied for 9th place. Set up a tiebreaker duel between them." Desdemona nodded. Johan finished fishing his keys out of his pockets. He and Desdemona said their goodbyes, and he left to head to the hospital.

He liked most of his job. But so far, this part hadn't gotten any better yet. He was really hoping that would change soon.

---

Soooo, I went to the hospital to check on Yuya. They told me they're keeping him for observation, but they should be able to release him in a couple days.

If you can, send him some well wishes, I think he'd really appreciate it.

In the meantime, Yuzu, Masumi, you guys should try and prepare for your duel, you're gonna need to be ready to go within the next few days.
